Role Overview
The Course Assistant role is ideal for someone who wants to gain valuable experience working with children. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to bring fresh knowledge and energy to the courses and develop responsibility in what could be their first role. Course Assistants work with a team of staff to ensure that each element of the summer schools is conducted in a safe and secure manner and a positive learning environment is created with plenty of potential for development.
In this role, you'll have the opportunity to earn, learn, and grow while showcasing your skills and enhancing your CV. You'll be able to add value to our courses by contributing to sports workshops, designing new evening events, or even supporting our marketing efforts

Your role provides pastoral support by listening to students' concerns and collaborating with House Parents to foster a safe, nurturing environment, maintaining friendly yet professional relationships without becoming "friends" and promptly reporting / acting on concerns. You support daily routines including morning wake-ups and bedtimes, assist Events Managers' evening entertainment by encouraging participation and supervising for a fun, inclusive atmosphere, and ensure safety / well-being during trips / excursions via age-appropriate policies, roll calls, pastoral support, and clear communication.
You support airport / Eurostar transfers welcoming arrivals and assisting departures with brief, supervised welcome periods, supervise mealtimes (rota basis) promoting positive behaviour, social inclusion, and healthy eating, engage students during breaks enforcing rules (phone restrictions), fostering interaction, and addressing behavioural issues promptly, while helping collate weekly feedback to monitor happiness
Additionally, based on your experience, interests, and the centre’s needs, your role may place greater emphasis on specific duties within one of the following areas:
Activities
Support players by escorting injured individuals and retrieving items, assist with testing and progress reports, and document activities through photos for communications and marketing.
Language
Provide student care by escorting sick students and guiding them in schedules; assist classroom teaching, support individual language learners, supervise breaks, and help with testing and exams.
Operations
Perform administrative tasks like preparing student lists and materials; organise and lead excursions with responsibility for safety and communication; and support camp communications including updates and social media.
Additional Duties (all Course Assistants)
You maintain active presence in boarding houses outside timetabled sessions, attend daily staff meetings, follow Staff Handbook guidelines, assist camp set-up / pack-down, and carry out other reasonable duties.

All staff are responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the centre while upholding the highest standards of safety and care.

Job Specific Personal Specification & Qualifications
To be suitable for this role, you possess native or near-native competence in English (minimum CEFR C1 level) and have experience working with children or young people, preferably in residential or summer school settings. You motivate and engage students of varying ages and abilities through strong leadership and teamworking skills, good communication and interpersonal abilities with students and colleagues, and an enthusiastic, approachable, friendly, and reliable attitude. You adapt flexibly to changing schedules and duties, adhere to safeguarding and child protection policies, maintain professionalism in appearance, conduct, and language, and fully participate in camp life including supervising meals, free time, and excursions. You commit to being fully present during activities by limiting personal phone usage to maximise interactions, demonstrate cultural sensitivity for inclusive work with diverse groups, take initiative beyond duties, and embrace feedback for continuous professional development.
Ideally, you bring relevant qualifications or experience in coaching sports or music, summer school operations like pastoral care, admin, organisation, or leading events / trips, a first aid qualification, and public speaking or presentation skills to confidently address groups and lead activities.
