Role Overview
The Director of Studies leads all aspects of English language teaching and learning at the centre, ensuring the highest standards of academic provision for Exsportise students. This role involves managing and supporting EFL Teachers, shaping and delivering the English programme according to tailored syllabuses and schemes of work, and monitoring teaching quality and student progress. As a key member of the senior management team, the Director of Studies collaborates on wider centre operations and strategic initiatives, fostering a positive learning environment and continuously enhancing the experience for both students and staff.

As Director of Studies your understand and implement the Exsportise English Language Programme (Foundation and Step Up pathways), ensuring effective delivery meeting students’ needs and British Council standards. You lead, motivate, and support EFL teachers delivering dynamic, student-centred lessons reflecting the motto “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn,” with clear, measurable outcomes shared and reviewed per session.
You foster collaborative EFL atmosphere, observe / evaluate / appraise teachers with feedback / development targets, monitor lesson plans / resources for variety / pace / progression, offer a buddy system to new teachers, cover teach when needed, assess student proficiency for appropriate placement / level / balanced classes matching teacher strengths, ensure differentiation in multilevel classes, take responsibility for welfare / discipline / engagement liaising with Welfare Manager / House Parents, manage queries professionally, coordinate exams (briefing / setup / invigilation / feedback), enforce the no-phone policy (including break times) encouraging connections, maintain updated / marked exercise books with self-assessments, create engaging classroom displays, ensure weekly reports / certificates even for programme switchers, lead EFL meetings / CPD, enforce Teacher standards, collaborate with activity staff on language guidance, and produce end-of-course academic reports for Head Office.
Additional Duties
You attend Sundays for teacher planning / new arrivals / Welcome Meeting, participate in daily staff meetings, follow Staff Handbook / Centre Manager guidelines, assist camp setup/pack-down, and carry out other reasonable duties for smooth operations.

Job Specific Personal Specification & Qualifications
To be suitable for this role, you have native or near-native competence in written and spoken English (minimum CEFR level C2), a first degree or equivalent, and hold a DELTA / Trinity Dip. TESOL (or a UK-recognised equivalent), or PGCE in English or Modern Foreign Languages with QTS for primary. You possess a minimum of three years full-time EFL teaching experience, teaching both young learners and advanced students in multilingual classes requiring adaptability and cultural awareness. You have previous Director of Studies (DoS) or Assistant DoS experience with our age group. Strong organisational, planning, and time management skills enable you to handle multiple responsibilities including curriculum development, lesson oversight, and administrative duties. You communicate excellently with enthusiasm and friendliness, fostering a positive rapport with teachers, students, and staff. Resilient and adaptable, you embrace the residential summer school lifestyle and culture. You are proficient in MS Office and Google Drive, aware of safeguarding, health and safety responsibilities, and British Council quality assurance standards. You can manage exam administration ensuring smooth logistics and compliance. You are flexible in working hours (including evenings and weekends), professional in appearance and language, are a proactive problem-solving, and have the ability to maintain calm and effective classroom environment.
Ideally, you hold young learner teaching certifications (such as TYLEC), have experience with CLIL or TBL methodologies, teacher training / CPD experience and have previously been involved in British Council inspections.
